New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) The Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, an organisation for the empowerment of workers and peasants, Monday condemned the refusal of permission by the Delhi Police to social activist Anna Hazare and his team to fast in a peaceful manner.

Aruna Roy of the MKSS said: “In a democracy, peaceful protest cannot be circumscribed by arbitrary restrictions such as number of days or protesters. While we disagree with some of the demands of (Hazare’s) India Against Corruption, the MKSS supports their fundamental democratic right to peacefully protest.”

“We demand that the concerned authorities immediately give permission to the IAC to hold their peaceful protest, without imposing unreasonable conditions,” Roy said.

Delhi Police have denied permission to Hazare to agitate in the city.
