Surat, Feb 27 (IANS) Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel Friday laid the foundation of a new terminal at Surat airport, the eighth such terminal project in the country since Feb 20.
The new domestic terminal, a glass and steel structure, will have a floor area of 8,474 square metres and offer modern passenger friendly facilities like central heating and air conditioning system, Patel said.
Once complete, the terminal will be able to handle 230,000 passengers a year.
Patel, who reached Gujarat Thursday after inaugurating a swanky departure terminal in the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi, laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at the Vadodara airport at night.
The minister Feb 20 began his tour to launch airport modernisation projects at five cities - Mumbai, Indore, Bhopal, Raipur and Ranchi.
This was followed by opening of new integrated terminals Feb 21 at Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. He flew the same day to Goa to lay the foundation stone for the new integrated terminal.
On Feb 25, Patel inaugurated the new integrated terminal buildings at the Amritsar International Airport, Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun and Jaipur International Airport.
