Passengers foil hijack attempt of Turkish plane
October 15th, 2008 - 6:34 pm ICT by IANSAnkara, Oct 15 (Xinhua) An attempt to hijack a Turkish Airlines (THY) plane on its way from Antalya in southern Turkey to Russia’s St Petersburg has been foiled by passengers Wednesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported. State Airports Authority (DHMI) chief Orhan Birdal said a passenger attempted to hijack the plane by claiming that he was carrying a bomb.
“He was overpowered (by other passengers). And the plane is continuing its flight to St Petersburg,” Birdal said.
