Passenger train derails, no casualties

Rampur (Uttar Pradesh), May 3 (IANS) A passenger train derailed here Tuesday, disrupting rail traffic on the busy Lucknow-Delhi route, police said. All passengers are safe.

The engine of the Garib Rath Express train and a coach derailed near the Rampur station, damaging the rail track length of several metres.

“The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. Railway officials are carrying out an enquiry,” Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Ravindra Singh told reporters in Rampur, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“A team of railway officials has reached the spot and operations are under way to restore the traffic along the affected route,” he added.

According to officials, the train was heading from Kanpur to Kathgodam in Uttarakhand.
