Part of land for AMU’s Kerala centre handed over
March 6th, 2010 - 10:17 pm ICT by IANSPerinthalmanna (Kerala), March 6 (IANS) The Kerala government Saturday transferred a portion of the land allotted for the Aligarh Muslim University’s special centre at Malappuram and promised the rest in the next two months.
Education and Cultural Affairs Minister M. A. Baby handed over the papers and a map of the 122 acres of land to AMU Vice Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis at a public meeting here, while Local Self Government and Rural Development Affairs Minister Paloli Mohamed Kutty assured that the remaining 270 acres of land would be handed over by the end of May.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest and Minister of State for Railways E. Ahamed said the central government has taken note of the severe educational deficit prevailing among the Muslims in the country and has taken measures to redress this as pointed out in the Sachar Committee report.
Ponnani MP E.T.Mohamed Basheer and local legislators V. Sasi Kumar, Abdurrab, Abdur Rahiman Ramdhani, MLA, Thannur and other politicians and officials were also present at the public meeting.
