Pakistani prosecutors submit 26/11 evidence in court

Islamabad, July 9 (IANS) Pakistani prosecutors Saturday submitted the documentary evidence of India to an anti-terrorism court conducting the trial of seven men charged with involvement in the Mumbai terror attack, a media report said.

Judge Shahid Rafique conducted the proceedings in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Judge Rafique, appointed recently, is the fifth judge in the case since the trial began in early 2009.

Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and six other men are being tried for their alleged involvement in the Mumbai attack that left 166 people dead.

The evidence that was submitted Saturday included confessional statement of Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive during the carnage and currently a death row prisoner lodged in a Mumbai jail, in English, Hindi and Marathi, as well as files containing the autopsy reports of those killed, among others.

The prosecutors from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented the evidence, following an application from the defence lawyers, the Online news agency reported.

Judge Rafique adjourned the case till July 23, it added.

The accused were charged with planning, facilitating and financing the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai.
