Pakistan denies report of MQM leader’s killers’ arrest
November 14th, 2011 - 9:09 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Nov 14 (IANS/AKI) Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik Monday rejected a claim made by London police that two suspects have been arrested in Pakistan in connection with the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Imran Farooq.
“No arrest has been made in the murder case of Imran Farooq,” Malik said.
“No such thing has been mentioned in a letter sent by the British authorities to the interior ministry,” he said.
The 50-year-old Farooq was repeatedly stabbed in the head and neck in Edgware, north London in September 2010. He was a leading member of the MQM party.
Farooq had fled Pakistan because of threats to his life, according to reports.
Western media reports recently said that London Police Commissioner Bernard Morgan had confirmed the arrest of two suspects in Pakistan. He said the London police were cooperating with Pakistani authorities in the matter.
