Over 9,000 students take part in cultural meetDecember 28th, 2008 - 4:05 pm ICT by IANS
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 28 (IANS) The Kerala School Kalotsavam, a mega cultural meet, is all set to enter the Guinness Book of Records as nearly 9,000 students are taking part in over 215 events.Students, studying in Class 8-12 at government schools, are participating in the 49th edition of the festival, which closes Monday.
The week-long event included competitions ranging from solo song to group dances staged in 16 different festival venues. Over 17 venues were booked for accommodating the children.
Also, a Central Stadium has been turned into a dining hall and kitchen to serve food to students and teachers. Another hall at the Central High School will also fulfil the same purpose.
“I have been told that nowhere else does an event to this dimension takes place. The organisers did ask me about informing the Guinness. I said they are free to do that, but I told them that I want the event to go off in utmost discipline and without any issues,” State Education Minister M.A. Baby told IANS.
He said his immediate priority is to see that the event passes off smoothly.
Over the years, this is an event where complaints about facilities and the judging committee have assumed alarming proportions.
“I am more worried about such things and I have ensured that the participating students are given the correct ambience and the proper atmosphere to display their best at the various events,” said Baby.
This festival was first staged in 1956 when 200 students participated.
