Over 50 killed, 300 injured in temple stampede (Lead, Changing dateline)

Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh), Aug 3 (IANS) Over 50 devotees were killed and more than 300 injured in a stampede at the famous Naina Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh Sunday. Randhir Sharma, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator of the area, said more than 50 people were killed in a stampede at the temple, located 160 km from Shimla.

The stampede occurred after a railing outside the temple collapsed, said the police.

The crowd had gathered at the temple on the occasion of the 10-day Sharavan Ashtami fair that began Saturday.

The injured were rushed to hospitals in nearby towns.
