Berlin, Feb 19 (IANS) Struggling Bundesliga football club Hertha Berlin has roped in coach Otto Rehhagel till the end of the season, manager Michael Preetz said.

Seventy three-year-old Rehhagel will join the club to avoid their relegation into second division, Preetz said in a television interview before the match against defending champions Borussia Dortmund.

“Otto Rehhagel has given us his promise to help us in this situation until the end of the season. I am sure that is the right thing to do,” manager Preetz was quoted as saying by Xinhua Saturday.

Caretaker coaches Rene Tretschok and Ante Covic will help Rehhagel as assistants.

Rehhagel is thus the fourth coach of the season for Berlin. He will return after 12 years of absence at the Bundesliga, where he won the German championship three times.

From 2001-2010, Rehhagel was coach of Greece, where he won the European Championships in 2004 in Portugal.
