Orissa to raise special force for VIP security

Bhubaneswar, July 30 (IANS) The Orissa government is to raise a special police force for Bhubaneswar and nearby Cuttack within a year for better security cover to VIPs, an official said Wednesday. The special battalion will gather intelligence and provide security cover to VIPs and vital installations, a home department official told IANS.

A deputy commissioner of police will head the battalion of special armed force which will have around 600 personnel. The government is planning to raise it by spending Rs.120 million, he said.

The two cities have over 2,000 policemen at present.
