Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (IANS) Six more people died in Orissa Friday in flood-related incidents, bringing the death toll to 32, authorities said.

Four deaths were reported from Jajpur district and two from Puri district, a senior official of the state flood control room told IANS.

The number of people swept away or drowned has remained at 12.

Their bodies have not yet been found, he said, adding that no fresh case of drowning has been reported since the past two days.

The situation has improved in many areas and survivors have started returning to their villages, he said.

Thousands of victims continue to live in makeshift tents on river embankments, roads and in relief camps as water has not receded fully from their area, the official said.

Except Brahmani near Jenapur in Cuttack district, all major rivers in the state were flowing below warning level, the official said.

The week-long floods triggered by heavy rains and the release of large amount of water from Hirakud dam have affected 19 of Orissa’s 30 districts.

The districts worst hit include Jagatsingpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Boudh, Subarnapur, Cuttack and Nayagarh.

The number of dwelling houses damaged was more than 55,000, the official added.

The number of relief camps and free kitchen centres which were opened in the affected areas Friday came down to 200, the state government said in a statement.

Food relief was provided to over two lakh people so far, it said.
