“One body was found in the morning. Bodies of all the ten pilgrims, who went missing following the capsizal of the trawler, have been recovered,” South 24-Parganas Additional Superintendent of Police Ranendra Nath Banerjee said.
The boat, carrying around 60 passengers, sank in the Muriganga river Wednesday near the jetty at Kakdwip, around 85 km from here.
Banerjee said: “Nine bodies were recovered till Thursday afternoon and the last one was recovered this (Friday) afternoon.”
Several agencies, including state civil defence department, the Border Security Force (BSF), the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy had joined in the search and rescue operations.
The victims’ bodies will be sent to their hometowns in Punjab, Rajasthan and to Delhi by a special train, an official said.
The boat, carrying passengers from Sagar Island in the Bay of Bengal, was coming to Kakdwip when it capsized.
A preliminary investigation revealed the boat capsized after it ran aground on the silt, police said.
