One man gunned down by suspected pro-Maoists in Bengal
January 18th, 2011 - 4:15 pm ICT by IANSLalgarh (West Bengal), Jan 18 (IANS) The bullet-riddled body of a man suspected to have been killed by the pro-Maoist Peoples’ Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA) was found in Lalgarh in West Midnapore district Tuesday.”The body of Khagen Das Adhikari, who was abducted Monday, was found in Chandrapur village today,” West Midnapore police superintendent Manoj Verma told IANS over the phone.
Verma said Gana Militia, the armed wing of the PCAPA, was suspected to have committed the murder. “I believe it was the handiwork of the Gana Militia,” Verma said.
West Bengal’s ruling Left Front major Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leaders claimed Das was a party activist who was gunned down by the Maoists as he had attended Monday’s meeting at Lalgarh addressed by state ministers Sushanta Ghosh and Abdur Rezzak Molla.
Another police officer said several people were injured when the Maoists attacked the Chandrapur village Monday night.
In West Bengal, the guerrillas are mainly active in three western districts - West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia.
