One lakh lamps to be lit at Navi Mumbai temple
May 25th, 2011 - 8:13 pm ICT by IANSNavi Mumbai, May 25 (IANS) The Shaniswer Temple Trust in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai would organise the festival of lighting a lakh lamps on its premises on the occasion of ‘Shani Jayanti’ June 1, a trust official said here Wednesday.
“We will organise the ‘Laksha Deepotsav’ (festival of lighting one lakh lamps) with the aim of appeasing Lord Shani (the temple’s deity) on Shani Jayanti on June 1,” said Santosh Shetty, the trust’s chairman and a corporator of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
The nine-year-old temple in Nerul township of Navi Mumbai attracts around 12,000 devotees every Saturday.
An annual ‘Rathotsav’ (chariot festival) organised by the trust is also very popular amongst the devotees. Thousands of devotees along with several celebrities participate in the colourful procession every year.
