One labourer killed, another injured as car climbs footpath

New Delhi, July 26 (IANS) A labourer was killed and another critically injured Saturday when a car, being driven by a youth who had allegedly consumed alcohol, climbed a footpath on which they were sleeping in south Delhi, the police said. The driver, identified as Manjit, 22, was under the influence of alcohol when the car hit the footpath in Nizammuddin area around 2.30 a.m., killing one labourer on the spot and injuring another, a police official said.

The victims are yet to be identified.

Manjeet, a resident of Haryana, was arrested and the car was impounded.

“The injured labourer was taken to the AIIMS trauma centre where his condition is said to be critical. The body of the dead labourer was sent for post-mortem examination,” the police official said.

Manjeet was accompanied by a friend, who is being questioned.

His blood sample was sent to test for presence of alcohol, the official added.
