One killed in Thane building collapse
August 19th, 2012 - 9:16 pm ICT by IANSThane (Maharashtra), Aug 19 (IANS) One person was killed and three others were injured when the top two floors of an old building collapsed Sunday in Bhiwandi town of Thane district, police said.
“The ground-plus-three-storey building located on Bhiwandi-Kalyan road was in a state of utter disrepair. We believe heavy rains since last (Saturday) night added to the already bad state of the building and its top two stories gave way this (Sunday) afternoon,” a Thane police control official said.
Many occupants were trapped in the debris. However, a team of fire brigade rescue workers pulled most of them out.
The deceased has been identified as Uddheshwar Paswan. The three injured were admitted to a local hospital.
