Ranchi, Sep 20 (IANS) One person was killed when police fired at a mob protesting against a death in a road accident near the Jharkhand capital Saturday evening, police said. People took to the streets after a speeding tanker crushed a man to death near Pithoria block, around 40 km from here.
The sources said the police with the help of some local people seized the petrol tanker as the driver fled the spot.
An angry mob blocked the traffic and even threw stones at the houses of the people who helped the police in taking the petrol tanker away, the sources said.
The mob also threw stones at the police, who opened fire after trying to pacify the protesters and warning them by firing in the air.
