Bhubaneswar, Dec 9 (IANS) A security man was killed and a dozen people were injured when a clash broke out between villagers and security men posted at the limestone quarry of OCL India Ltd in Orissa’s Sundergarh district, police said Tuesday.”The villagers came in a group and attacked the security men late Monday night in the limestone quarry at Lanjiberna,” police officer Rajesh Chatria told IANS.

He said four security men and a villager got critically injured and were admitted to a local hospital.

OCL India’s Deputy Manager Public Relations R.P. Mohanty said the clash broke out when the villagers illegally entered the quarry, some 500 km from here.

“The villagers first attacked the security men. The local miscreants often steal company property. To check stealing, we hired a new security agency which engaged the men,” he said.

He said the situation remains tense.

However, according to villagers, the security men attacked the villagers first. “A villager has received bullet injuries,” they said.

OCL India, a cement producer in eastern India and which uses limestone to feed its factory in neighbouring Rajgangpur town, Tuesday suspended operations in the quarry.
