Kolkata, Nov 6 (IANS) An activist of an anti-Maoist forum promoted by the Trinamool Congress was injured in firing by suspected left wing extremists in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Sunday, police said.

The ultras fired from nearby jungles at the Jana Jagaran Mancha members who were holding a meeting in Adharishol village.

The victim, Rupchand Soren, was taken to Jhargram sub-divisional hospital, police said.

The Mancha was formed a couple of months back to rally common people against the left wing ultras.

Following the incident, joint security forces encircled the area and started a combing mission, but could not apprehend any of the rebels.

Maoist guerrillas are active in West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura districts of the state.
