One injured in firing at a Ghaziaban wedding

Ghaziabad, Feb 22 (IANS) A 40-year-old man was critically injured when his inebriated nephew fired his pistol during a marriage ceremony in the Bulandshahr Industrial Area here, the police said Sunday.
According to the police, Sanjeev Sharma, 26, went to attend a wedding at the Green Valley Farms in Bulandshahr Industrial Area Saturday night. Around 12.30 a.m. a heavily drunk Sanjeev took out his pistol and started firing in the air.

One of the bullets hit his uncle, Upendra Sharma. The crowds immediately started dispersing and a state of chaos followed.

Upendra was taken to the Yashoda Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

Gajendra Kumar, the station officer of Kavi Nagar police station, said: “Sanjeev has been arrested. We have also seized his pistol and would seek cancellation of his revolver license.”

Firing in the air during marriage ceremonies is a common occurrence in the some parts of north India.
