Omar orders parole for Kashmir cleric
June 29th, 2011 - 4:28 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, June 29 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday ordered the release on parole of Qazi Yasir, the south Kashmir Mirwaiz, so that he could attend the funeral of his uncle.
In his latest tweet, the chief minister posted: “Have ordered release of Qazi Yasir on parole to attend the last rites of his uncle Qazi Amman in Anantnag as a humanitarian gesture.”
Qazi Amman, Yasir’s uncle, died following heart attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district Tuesday evening.
Yasir had been detained under the Public Safety Act by the state government last year for fomenting trouble in south Kashmir areas.
In April, the Jammu and Kahsmir High Court quashed his detention under the PSA, but the state government again booked the cleric under the same act.
