New Delhi, June 3 (IANS) Delhi Police Wednesday questioned India’s lone Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra’s industrialist father A.S. Bindra, who had been hospitalised for chest pain after his arrest for an alleged multi-million rupee fraud.
“We called and questioned A.S. Bindra for some clarifications in cases in which he is an accused,” said a senior police officer.
Bindra was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police from his sprawling farm house in Mohali May 18.
Bindra Senior is accused of cheating Apple Finance of Rs.43.1 million and IndusInd Bank of Rs.50 million. He is alleged to have obtained loans on the basis of forged documents and issued post-dated cheques that bounced.
Police said Bindra had taken the loans for his company Punjab Meats Ltd. He has also been accused of having sold the land that had been mortgaged to the bank as collateral.
But after his arrest, Bindra had complained of chest pain and was admitted to a government hospital in Chandigarh and a fortnight ago a Delhi court granted him bail after he furnished a personal bond of Rs.500,000 and two sureties of like amount.
