Official shot dead in Uttar Pradesh
October 19th, 2011 - 8:04 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 19 (IANS) An Uttar Pradesh government official was shot dead by two unidentified men in the state’s Banda district Wednesday, police said.
The motive behind the crime is yet to be ascertained.
Anand Kumar Chauhan, 50, a provincial civil service (PCS) officer, was killed at his official residence in Banda city.
“Chauhan, an additional executive officer at the Banda zila panchayat, was shot dead while he was about to leave his residence for office,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shukla told reporters in Banda, some 200 km from Lucknow.
“The two men initially hurled abuses at him, and later fired several shots. Chauhan, who received multiple bullet injuries, died on the spot,” he added.
Only Chauhan’s driver was present in the house at the time of the attack.
Chauhan’s family lives in Lucknow.
