Official blamed for lapses in child workers’ rescue
March 21st, 2011 - 6:07 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 21 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Monday came down heavily on sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Geeta Colony in east Delhi for poor handling of an NGO-led operation to rescue 22 child labourers from a brocade unit early this month.
Volunteers of NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan were attacked by local goons while rescuing the child labourers from a zari unit in Jheel Khureji area March 17. The court said the SDM did not communicate the plan to police before the raid.
