New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) US ambassador to India Timothy J. Roemer Friday said President Barack Obama was “excited” about his trip to India in November and called the trip an “extraordinary” one.
“When I was back home in the US this summer and visited White House, the level of excitement, the anticipation on the part of the President, all leaders… how excited our country, not just the President, but our people to have the visit,” Roemer told reporters here.
The envoy said Obama’s visit to India, likely early November, would be “extraordinary”.
“The president calls it indispensable partnership today in the 21st century between the two countries… the global partnership.”
Roemer Friday discussed security and counter-terror cooperation with Home Minister P. Chidambaram, key issues that are also expected to figure in talks between Obama and Manmohan Singh in Delhi in November.
“We talked about how closely the US and India are working together on counter-terrorism issues… at the technical level and at strategic level. We talked about the opportunities to increase this cooperation in the future,” he said.
