Nursery admissions: Court ask parents to approach grievance cell
February 3rd, 2010 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday asked parents having problems with the ongoing nursery admissions in the capital to approach the grievance cell of the Directorate of Education.
Justice G.S. Sistani suggested that the parents approach the grievances cell of the education department first regarding their complaints. The court posted the matter for hearing Feb 8.
The court Wednesday took up a petition filed by Rakesh Mittal, an advocate, whose son did not get admission in a city school. The petitioner alleged that the school has not followed the criteria under the Delhi School Education Act.
Mittal alleged that the Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School in Humayun Road violated the criteria under the act and the guidelines issued by the Delhi Directorate of Education with regard to nursery admissions.
Mittal contended he had applied for his son’s admission in the school as it was near his home, one of the criteria for admission according to the point-based system.
“The school, instead of following the point system, was interviewing the parents. The notice board did not talk anything about the point system as directed in the government notification on December 22, 2007,” the petitioner said.
