New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS) Congress party workers burst fire crackers, danced to drum beats and distributed sweets outside the party headquarters and its chief Sonia Gandhi’s residence here Saturday on news of India getting the NSG waiver in Vienna. The roads outside Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janpath and the party headquarter, at 24 Akbar Road, were jam-packed with Congress workers gathered in large numbers to celebrate the development.

Party workers carrying the tricolour shouted slogans in support of Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Many leaders and office-bearers distributed sweets.

“We are here to celebrate the country’s win at NSG. It’s also a win for Sonia-ji, Manmohan-ji and Rahul-ji, who have made great efforts to get the India-US nuclear deal through the NSG,” said Salim Khan, a Congress party worker.

In a historic decision, the 45-nation Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) at its meeting in Vienna Saturday agreed to rewrite its guidelines to resume global nuclear trade with New Delhi.
