Jalandhar, June 7 (IANS) The Punjab police have booked three brothers, including two non-resident Indians (NRIs), for giving a contract to kill their father in Punjab’s Jalandhar district last month. The police arrested one of the sons based here, Rajwinder Singh. A case of murder conspiracy has been registered against NRI brothers Amandeep and Sumandeep also.

The three brothers paid Rs.400,000 to a contract killer through hawala channels to get their father Karnail Singh murdered May 16, the police alleged. He was shot dead but the sons made it look like a road accident.

The police said the sons got their father murdered as he was adamant on getting married for a second time and the sons feared that their property would be divided if he married again.

Police officials here said that the sons tried to reason with their father not to marry again but when he did not listen to them, they hired a professional to eliminate him.
