NRI raped on pretext of marriage
February 8th, 2011 - 9:50 pm ICT by IANSZirakpur (Punjab), Feb 8 (IANS) A man from Haryana has been arrested for repeatedly raping an NRI teenager after promising to marry her and even leaving her pregnant, police said Tuesday. According to the police, the victim was a resident of France who had come to India to study.
“She had come to India in 2009 and took admission in a private college in Dera Bassi in Punjab. She fell in love with Gurinderpal Singh, who was studying engineering at Ambala town. Singh had physical relations with her and promised to marry her,” said a police official.
“The girl mentioned in her complaint that she was three months pregnant when she asked Gurinderpal to marry her but he refused. We are investigating the case and will very soon arrest the accused.”
Zirakpur town is about 10 km from Chandigarh.
