New Delhi, May 23 (IANS) A two-day jamboree of overseas Indians from South East Asia and Pacific nations will be held in Singapore in October this year. “The Singapore government had invited us to organise it there and we have accepted it,” Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi told reporters here Friday.

He said the two-day function, Oct 10-11, would be attended by overseas Indians from Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Fiji and other neighbouring countries.

The ministry organised an annual get-together of overseas Indians in January in New Delhi.

But, it has also previously organised a meet in New York to showcase the strength of Indian-Americans, who are among the most prosperous ethnic communities in the US.

There are about 25 million people of Indian origin (PIO) spread in over 130 countries. In Singapore, there are about 400,000 Indians, while Malaysia has the largest number of PIOs in South East Asia with 4.1 million people.
