NRI from Dubai killed as car falls into river

Ahmedabad, Sep 15(IANS) A Non Resident Indian from Dubai was killed when the car he was travelling in was washed away while crossing a bridge over an overflowing river in Rajkot in Gujarat, police said Monday.Raghuvir Rughani, 65, was killed when a Santro car he was travelling in along with two others got washed away while crossing a bridge on river Nyari at Dholera village near Rajkot Sunday night. The two other occupants of the car managed to escape and reach the bank. Rughani’s body was found Monday morning near Jashwantpur in Rajkot tehsil.

Widespread rains have lashed most parts of Saurashtra and Kutch since Saturday. Many rivers and rivulets are overflowing and most of the dams and reservoirs are brimming with fresh rain water. The fear of imminent drinking water crisis in many cities and towns of Saurashtra and Kutch has receded due to the abundant rains and farmers are happy that the rains have saved their crops.
