New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Delhi’s National Law University has started a postgraduate course in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patent law. The course, to be run through video conferencing, will enable students to get absorbed in research and development organisations, government and non-government agencies.
Under intellectual property laws, owners are granted certain exclusive rights to a variety of intangible assets, such as musical, literary, and artistic works, ideas, discoveries and inventions and words, phrases, symbols, and designs. Common types of intellectual property include copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial design rights and trade secrets in some jurisdictions.

This 12-month course will encompass all of these and other forms of intellectual property (IP) law, filing procedures and how to conduct trademark searches.

Darshana Vyas, the admissions coordinator, told IANS Tuesday: “This programme, which is at par with the finest IP programmes in the country, extensively covers issues related to management of IP such as commercialisation, valuation, licensing and portfolio audit”.

“The programme will be conducted across India through a satellite based platform,” she added.

Other than legal frameworks, the training will also cover the technical aspects of writing patents and other forms of IP documents, within US, European and Indian processes, Vyas said.

“The teaching process will be highly interactive and will consist of a judicious blend of lectures, real life case studies, examples from the corporate world, general discussions, quizzes and assignments in order to provide greater industry insights,” she added.

In order to attract working professionals, the classes will be conducted before office hours, twice a week. The total fee for the program is Rs. 1,55,000.
