Lucknow, Sep 9 (IANS) A human rights organisation has come up with a novel way to spread awareness against domestic violence in Uttar Pradesh - by launching a multimedia campaign on wheels that will travel to different parts of the state. “The van will travel through various districts of the state, spreading awareness with the help of street plays, games and audio-visual tracks to check domestic violence,” said Sonali Khan, manager (communications) of human rights organisation Breakthrough.

The mobile campaign, which began Monday, is part of an extensive drive called `Bell Bajao’, which aims to end domestic violence and spread awareness about HIV/AIDS also through various media, she said.

According to a study conducted by the National Crime Record Bureau, Uttar Pradesh accounts for nearly 10 percent of the crime against women across the country.

“It is really a disgrace for Uttar Pradesh. People from various walks of life need to stand united in the fight against domestic violence,” said Roop Rekha Verma, former Lucknow University vice-chancellor and a social activist.
