Not worried with Zaheer’s comments: Ponting
January 11th, 2012 - 7:26 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Perth, Jan 11 (IANS) Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting is not bothered with Zaheer Khan calling him a grinder and said he was happy with his batting style.
“What Zaheer has said, the same thing could be said about Sachin, (Jacques) Kallis or Dravid who have been consistent run-scorers. I’ve worked hard at my game in the last few months and made progress last year and got good scores on the board,” Ponting said.
“I’m not worried about Zaheer or anyone else. I don’t think any of us… have been focused on or worried about what the Indian team have been doing. I know what I need to do and leave an impact I want to for Australia,” Ponting said at the press conference on Wednesday.
Ponting said he was happy with his game after the much awaited Test century at the Sydney Cricket Ground, that came after two years, and believed that more good knocks were just around the corner.
“There’s more than one way to skin a cat. I’ve had to work really hard on my game the last few months and I feel like I’ve made some progress in the last few weeks,” said Ponting.
Asked how he placed the innings in Sydney, Ponting said: “The biggest challenge for me… was getting quality time in the middle. The first 30 or 40 runs the first morning (of the second Test) I was probably battling myself a little bit. I’m not going to rest on one hundred. I’ve always said that if I got to those three figures that I’d push hard again.”
Ponting said Australia, who lead 2-0 in the series, will look to keep the pressure on the Indian team.
“I think our fast bowling group right through this series have been able to build pressure at both ends, I think that’s what Brad was trying to say. We’re hoping to keep India under pressure for a bit longer,” he said.
