Noida hospital chief says he was target of shoot out, case filedApril 7th, 2009 - 11:41 pm ICT by IANS
Noida, April 7 (IANS) The police in Noida Tuesday registered a case of attempted murder against three unidentified gunmen who shot at the guard of the Kailash Hospital Monday night. However, the hospital chairman, who is contesting the parliamentary poll, claimed that the three actually came to kill him.
Hospital chairman Mahesh Sharma, who is contesting from the Gautam Budh Nagar constituency on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, shot a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati as well as the Noida senior superintendent of police (SSP) Navin Arora, seeking security for himself and his family.
He offered to pay for the security. He also asked the police chief to carry out a speedy investigation on his complaint lodged with Sector 20 police station.
The SSP met Sharma Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the hospital management claimed that there was nobody they could accuse or or suspect in the case. “We are trying to identify who could be behind the incident,” said an official of the hospital.
However, the local BJP alleged the whole episode was “a deliberate move by rival political parties and individuals to shackle the confidence of an otherwise strong candidate and his supporters in the region.”
“Dr. Mahesh Sharma has an edge over other candidates in the fray and this is not going down well with some rival groups, who are doing every bit to derail his election campaign,” said a local BJP leader, who did not wish to be named.
Around 10.45 Monday night, three men on a motorcycle came and stopped near the hospital gate. One of the trio came towards the hospital’s security guard Ram Avtar and shot at him. As the guard ran for shelter towards the hospital premises, the attendant of a patient, who was standing beside him, also got injured in the firing.
The guard sustained two bullet injuries - one in his abdomen and the other in his shoulder - and was rushed inside the hospital in a critical state. Meanwhile, the assailants fled on their motorcycle.
