Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 11 (IANS) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Wednesday said the Karnataka Police had not given any information about the impending arrest of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nazir Maudany, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore bomb blasts case.
A four-member team of the Karnataka Police arrived in Kerala Tuesday and speculation was rife that it would arrest Maudany.

But neither the state government nor the director general of police had been informed about the arrest, Balakrishnan told reporters here on arrival from Hyderabad.

“The team has met the Kollam superintendent of police but did not inform the government, home secretary or director general of police of their arrival. The arrest will take place only after discussions between the two police departments,” he said.

Ever since the arrival of the Karnataka Police became known, the headquarters of the PDP at Anwaraserry where Maudany resides has become a sea of humanity with hundreds of supporters laying siege to the entrance of the complex, which houses a few buildings.

Maudany was examined by doctors Tuesday night after he complained of being unwell.

One woman was killed and six people were injured when a series of bombs fitted with timer devices went off in the space of 45 minutes in the country’s IT capital.

Maudany, named as an accused in the case, has been trying to secure anticipatory bail. However, a court in Bangalore turned down his plea last month and the Karnataka High Court too refused his plea last week.

He and his wife Sufiya have been under the scanner following the arrest of suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative T. Nazeer last year near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya and currently in custody of the Bangalore police.

The PDP chief is accused of having links with Nazeer and knowing of the Bangalore plot. However, he has vehemently denied the charges.

Maudany was jailed after being linked to the 1998 serial bombings in Coimbatore but was acquitted in 2007.
