No headway in Delhi rape case
July 7th, 2011 - 12:34 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Police have failed to establish the identities of two men who along with another person gangraped a 16-year-old girl in a moving car for six hours on June 27 in north Delhi.
The incident was reported on June 27 in Sabzi Mandi area when the victim was returning from a coaching institute. She was stopped by three men in a white Omni van and dragged inside the vehicle. They took turns at raping her. The victim had claimed that while two men raped her, the third filmed the incident.
While one person, who allegedly filmed the incident, was arrested the next day, two others are still on the run and untraced. The arrested man has been identified as Nitin, 23.
“We have not been able to arrest the other two in the case as their identity is not known,” Deputy Commissioner of Police I.B. Rani Told IANS.
“Nitin has denied the allegation that he filmed the incident. We have not found any clip in his mobile. But the investigation is on and we will nab the offenders soon.”
Meanwhile, Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath Wednesday demanded speedy trial of all the rape cases in fast track courts.
Describing the rising incidents of violence against women as “traumatic”, Tirath said: “It is traumatic for members of civil society to get to know through the media that atrocities against women, including rape cases, are taking place in UP, in Delhi as well as in the entire length and breadth of India.”
The comments came after five rape and molestation cases were reported in Delhi within 48 hours, from July 1-3.
On July 1 a minor girl was raped by her teenaged cousin who was arrested the next day, and on July 2 an eight-year-old girl was allegedly sodomised by her tutor who was arrested in Vijay Vihar.
On July 2 another 16-year-old girl was abducted by her 21 year-old neighbour from her home in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, taken to Panipat and allegedly raped. The accused has been arrested.
On July 2, again, a man was arrested for raping a 21-year-old married woman in Shahbad Dairy.
