No headway in Delhi High Court blast case: Pillai (Lead)
May 28th, 2011 - 10:29 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 28 (IANS) Investigating agencies have so far made no headway in cracking the latest Delhi blast case as “very few” people saw somebody leaving an explosive-laden bag in the parking lot of the Delhi High Court earlier this week, Home Secretary G.K. Pillai said Saturday.
“Investigation by Delhi Police is on. Very few people had seen the (bomber/s) who kept the bag there,” Pillai told reporters here at a function of the Border Security Force, when asked if police have got any clue to Wednesday’s low-intensity blast outside the high court.
He maintained that the blast caused little damage, saying: “Let’s not exaggerate difficulty caused by the blast because the blast was on the side-road.”
Pillai also said the investigators were trying to crack the case and he was “sure” results would come out in the coming days.
“The Delhi Police are investigating and I am sure that in the days to come we will have some results,” he said.
Delhi Police have made no arrests so far for the blast even though Uttar Pradesh’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Friday said they have detained from Ghaziabad a suspect, Gulfam, in the blast case.
Police sources said Saturday that some people, including two from the capital, were being questioned but no one has been arrested.
A black bag containing explosives was left by somebody at the explosion site and the bomb was triggered by a remote controlled device, they said.
Police said the rexene and canvas bag of ‘Perfect’ brand may have been purchased from a local market in the capital.
Police teams have been sent to markets like Sarojini Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Sadar Bazar and other places in old Delhi to check with the shopkeepers if they had recently sold the black bag to anybody.
The explosives substance in the bag was packed with a bunch of old rusted iron nails.
A team of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) officials has collected samples from the blast site and the Ford Figo car that was slightly damaged in the explosion. The CFSL report regarding the exact composition of the explosives is still awaited, police said.
