No fireworks this Diwali: PETA cards
October 19th, 2011 - 6:24 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Oct 19 (IANS) ‘Make Diwali Merry, Not Scary, for Animals - Don’t Light Fireworks’ — this is the message People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is spreading through its e-cards for the festival on PETAIndia.com.
“Diwali is the festival of joy, and by saying no to noisy fireworks, we can bring joy to the lives of animals too,” PETA official Kriti Sachdeva said Wednesday.
The fireworks appear like a terrorist attack to dogs, cats, cows, donkeys and other animals as they do not understand that the explosions are meant for entertainment, not bombardment, she added.
“During fireworks, many animals run away from their homes. While some end up in animal shelters, others suffer serious injuries. Some even die as they try to escape the noise,” Sachdeva noted.
