No deportation for Bangladeshi woman married to Indian
December 10th, 2009 - 11:36 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS) Giving relief to a Bangladeshi woman who fled her country to marry an Indian whom she met on the internet, the government Thursday informed the Delhi High Court that they would not deport the woman.
Submitting a status report before Justice V.K. Jain, the government said the process of deportation of the woman is under consideration for the time being.
The woman could not be brought to the court due to some pregnancy problems, her counsel told the court.
The court was hearing the plea of the woman’s father, Capt Abdus Sabur Khan of the Bangladesh Army who alleged that his daughter was kidnapped from Bangladesh and illegally married to Salman, as she was already married.
The couple met three years ago on the internet and their cyber chitchat soon blossomed into a relationship.
The two met in person for the first time in 2008 when Salman flew to Bangladesh from the United Arab Emirates, where he was working as a property consultant. The girl then came to India and the couple then moved a petition in the court in July, seeking protection which was granted to them.
Meanwhile, her father sought the help of the Bangladesh High Commission, which wrote to the home ministry asking that the girl be traced and handed over to her parents in Bangladesh.
