No consensus on creating all-India judicial service: Moily
July 25th, 2010 - 9:06 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, July 25 (IANS) There is no consensus yet on creating an all-India judicial service, union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily said Sunday.
“The attempt is to attract the best talent to the judicial service. But there is no unanimity on the subject yet,” Moily said.
He said that a paper on the issue will be prepared and suggestions will be invited from all sections of society in an effort to build a consensus.
Moily was speaking here at the regional review meeting of implementing the 13th Finance Commission recommendations on improving justice delivery.
Moily also promised improved infrastructure for the lower judiciary with the Rs.10,000 crore allotted by the 13th Finance Commission. The funds will be spent over five years.
“The states have been asked to set up more family courts and gram nyayalayas (rural courts). Commercial courts will now be set up in high courts on the lines of (the system in) the UK for speedy delivery of justice,” Moily said.
He added that a parliamentary committee was fine tuning the legislation dealing with commercial courts.
