No bail to Kalmadi for 90 days
April 26th, 2011 - 10:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 26 (IANS) Former chief of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Suresh Kalmadi and his two arrested aides will not be eligible to seek bail for 90 days with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday adding charges of forgery in its FIR against them.
The three additional charges added in the FIR include sections 467 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the Indian Penal Code.
These charges were added as Kalmadi, committee’s joint director general (Sports) A.S.V. Prasad and director general (Procurement) Surjit Lal were presented before the court. All the three were arrested Monday.
The agency will have 90 days to file its charge sheet, and until then they cannot apply for bail.
The move comes a few days after former OC director general V.K. Verma and former secretary general Lalit Bhanot, arrested Feb 23, completed their 60 days in custody, making them eligible to apply for their bail. But with the new charges, these two will have to wait 30 more days.
