Ranchi, March 29 (IANS) A Jharkhand court Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of the boyfriend and brother of Nirupama Pathak, the scribe who was found dead in her Koderma home last April.

A Koderma district court Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail pleas of Priyabhanshu Ranjan, Pathak’s boyfriend, and Samrendra Pathak, her brother.

The Koderma police early this month had said that Pathak’s family members and Ranjan were guilty of abetting her suicide.

Ranjan had alleged that Pathak, a Delhi-based journalist, was murdered by her family members as they were against their marriage, while her family said that she committed suicide when the marriage was refused.

During 11 months investigation police found no evidence of murder and the suicide note that Pathak had left was found to be genuine.

Based on the forensic report and other circumstances police concluded that Pathak committed suicide and that her family members and Ranjan were equally responsible for it.

The police sought a court order for issuing arrest warrants against the accused which the court granted, prompting the accused to plead for anticipatory bail.
