NMDC, BEC agreement for Chhattisgarh steel plant

Raipur, Sep 6 (IANS) The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) Tuesday signed a contract for a coke oven package in its upcoming integrated steel plant in Chhattisgarh with a consortium lead by Bhilai Engineering Corporation (BEC), a statement said.

NMDC’s director (Technical) N.K. Nanda and BEC managing director Arvind Jain signed the agreement in presence of NMDC CMD Rana Som, in Hyderabad, the headquarters of India’s largest iron ore producer in the public sector, the statement informed.

The total cost of the package is Rs.1,978 crore. The coke oven contract is the largest signed by NMDC till date for the upcoming 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Chhattisgarh plant that to be set up at Nagarnar in the state’s leftist insurgency-hit Bastar district.

The coke oven plant will be executed within 33 months.
