Nissan studying India’s small car segment
September 26th, 2011 - 11:30 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Sep 26 (IANS) Japanese car major Nissan is conducting a feasibility study to analyse its opportunities of becoming a major player in India’s small car segment after a low key response to its Micra small car.
“There is a great opportunity in the small car market for the company. We are doing a feasibility study to merit the possible demand,” Nissan Motor India managing director Kiminobu Tokuyama told reporters after the launch of the Sunny mid-size sedan here Monday.
He, however, did not specify when the study results are expected to come out.
The small car is expected to compete with the Hyundai Santro and Chevrolet Spark.
Micra has experienced a slow domestic response since its launch last year. The company sold 13,000 cars in the last fiscal and Micra contributed about 12,000 units.
Expecting a strong growth this fiscal on the back of launch of the sedan Sunny, Tokuyama said: “We are looking at sales of 40,000 units at the end of this fiscal.”
