Nine Puja revellers drown in Bihar
October 5th, 2011 - 10:00 pm ICT by IANSPatna, Oct 5 (IANS) Durga Puja festivities turned tragic for some in Bihar when two boats carrying revellers capsized, drowning nine people, police said Wednesday.
The first incident took place when a small boat with nearly a dozen villagers and returning from a fair in East Champaran district, about 200 km from here, sank in Machowaman lake.
Three bodies were recovered while seven or eight passengers swam to safety, a district official said.
In another incident, a boat with 15 passengers sank in the swollen Lakhandei river in Muzaffarpur district, drowning six people including three children and three women, police said.
