Nine of marriage party killed in Orissa road accident

Bhubaneswar, May 3 (IANS) Nine members of a marriage party were killed and at least 40 others injured after the minibus carrying them Sunday hit a tree and plunged into a ditch in Orissa’s Gajapati district, an official said.

The vehicle hit a roadside tree and fell into a five feet ditch near a hilly area, some 70 km from the district head quarter of Paralakhemundi and some 420 km from the state capital, Suranjan Satpathy, the block development officer (BDO) told IANS.

While four people died on the spot, five succumbed to their injuries in nearby hospitals, he said. At least 40 persons were wounded in the accident and are undergoing treatment. The condition of some of them is critical, Satpathy added.
