Nine Maoists killed in Orissa gunfight
January 9th, 2011 - 11:30 am ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Jan 9 (IANS) Nine Maoists were killed in a gunfight between security forces and the guerrillas in Orissa’s Rayagada district early Sunday, police said.The gun battle took place in a forested area near Kalyansinghpur in Rayagada.
“We have recovered nine bodies of Maoists and also seized huge quantity of arms and ammunition from them. We are waiting for other details,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Soumendra Priyadarshi told IANS.
The district headquarters of Rayagada, considered a Maoist stronghold, is about 400 km from Bhubaneswar.
