Nine killed in Maharashtra road accident
December 10th, 2008 - 4:13 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, Dec 10 (IANS) Nine people, including eight members of three Mumbai families, were killed when a truck rammed into a car on the outskirts of the city early Wednesday, police said.The accident occurred at the busy Panvel-Thane junction of Navi Mumbai, close to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, when the Qualis with 11 passengers was proceeding towards Pune around 2 a.m.
“A speeding truck came from the opposite direction and rammed into the Qualis, killing eight passengers and driver instantly. Three others are critically injured and have been admitted to the LifeLine Hospital in Panvel,” Investigating Officer S.M. Jadhav told IANS.
He said the truck driver is absconding and his identity is still not known.
Those dead in the accident include Chandrakant B. Shinde, his wife Sulochana and son Sameer; Sanjay D. Lokhande, his wife Dakshata and son Shubham; Nandkumar B. Tekwade and wife Sharmila.
